Cozy Fall Herbs and Spices

I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t expecting to wake up to snow this morning! The chilly weather got me thinking about fall cooking. So I thought I’d share some extra-cozy herbs and spices with you to make your autumn a little bit better.

OK

Basil

With a wide variety of breeds (sweet basil, thai basil, dark opal basil, and lemon basil just to name a few) this is a very versatile herb. It smells amazing fresh, with a soothing and slightly sweet aroma, and can add a lovely undertone to any dish. And did I mention that basil is an anti-inflammatory, cancer-fighting, pain-reducing stress reliever to boot?

Parsley

In addition to its light, crisp addition to any dish, Parsley is filled with vitamin C and protein. It’s super versatile and has detoxifying properties.

Sage

This wonderful-smelling herb is reminiscent of Thanksgiving and that crisp autumn smell. It is perfect for cooking in a brown-butter sauce to give your squash or pasta an extra burst of flavor. But did you know sage has been linked to improved cognition, lowered inflammation, and a strengthened immune system? Plus, this is one of the easiest herbs to grow in your garden. What’s not to love?

Rosemary

Delicious when paired with a butter or oil and thyme, rosemary is the mother of the rosmaric herbs. It is also an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic.

Thyme

Thyme can grow as a creeping ground cover, and (like most herbs) is definitely better fresh. It’s a little subtler than its cousin rosemary, and is a blood pressure reducer, cough-stopper, and immunity booster.

Mint

A great addition to tea, desserts, or jellies, mint is a soothing herb for unsettled stomachs and indigestion. It also helps stimulate brain function and is delicious year-round!

So go forth and cook cozily!
